connecting causes and donors for 25 years

Carroll County Community Foundation celebrates a milestone

January 11, 2022 -- Since 1997, the Carroll County Community Foundation has been connecting people to vital services and support within their north central Indiana community.

As an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Howard County Inc., the Carroll County Community Foundation has made grants of more than $3.5 million to help make our community a better place. This amount includes approximately $3.2 million in grants and $339,400 in scholarships, with an additional $3.5 million in Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships.

The Foundation benefits from strong local leadership that often includes two generations of support. For example, current Carroll County Community Foundation Services Committee Vice Chair Al Jackson’s late father, Pete, was a charter member of the organization’s services committee in 1997.

“My dad and the other charter members made such an immediate impact on communities around the county,” Al Jackson said. “Through the Lilly Endowment Inc. grants, funds were made available to assist building the Lilly Building in the Burlington Community Park, to help start a library in Yeoman, and to help the Wabash and Erie Canal venture in Delphi as well as many other capital projects.

“I’m proud of my family’s legacy supporting the Foundation,” Jackson added. “I hope others will continue to support this important work in our community as well.”

Building on this legacy of growth, the Foundation has announced it will now offer two grant cycles for the community. This means qualifying nonprofit organizations will have two periods during the year when competitive grants are available for worthy and important local causes.

“Expanding the Foundation’s grant-cycle schedule helps non-profit organizations in the county with their annual planning and programs,” said Dr. Paul Manning, Carroll County Community Foundation Services Committee chairperson. “This additional opportunity during the calendar year for non-profits to apply for and receive assistance helps to ensure a consistent and stable level of support for those needing help throughout the year.”

The Carroll County Community Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organization governed by a volunteer service committee of local citizens. The Foundation serves the interests of donors, awards grants and acts as a catalyst around issues of community importance in Carroll County. In addition to providing community support through endowed funds, the Foundation offers such services as a free will planning guide that is designed to help individuals as they prepare to work with their estate planning advisors.
